Yellow Fever Vaccination Requirements for Tanzania
Planning your adventure with Serengeti Savanna Adventures? Here's what you need to know about Yellow Fever vaccination requirements before traveling to Tanzania.
Who Needs the Yellow Fever Vaccine?
Requirements differ based on your travel history and country of origin:
Travelers from Non-Risk Areas
If you're coming from countries that are not considered Yellow Fever risk areas—such as the USA, Europe, Canada, and some parts of Asia—you do not need to be vaccinated to enter Tanzania.
Travelers from Risk (Endemic) Countries
If you're arriving from or have transited through Yellow Fever endemic countries, you must present a valid Yellow Fever vaccination certificate upon entry into Tanzania.
Transit Information
If you're transiting through a Yellow Fever endemic country, you're exempt from showing a vaccination certificate as long as:
- Your stay in the transit area is less than 12 hours
- You do not leave the airport
Vaccination Timing
- The Yellow Fever vaccine should be taken at least 10 days before arriving in Tanzania
- Only one dose is needed for lifetime protection
Exemptions
Travelers above 60 years, infants under 1 year, and individuals with medical exemptions may be exempt but should seek medical attention if experiencing symptoms like fever, headache, or joint pain.
Traveling Between Mainland Tanzania & Zanzibar
No worries! Since Zanzibar is part of the United Republic of Tanzania, no Yellow Fever certificate is required when traveling:
- From Mainland Tanzania to Zanzibar
- From Zanzibar to Mainland Tanzania
Important Notice
If you are required to present a certificate and fail to do so, you may:
- Be refused entry
- Be vaccinated at the airport
- Be placed under public health observation for up to 10 days
At Serengeti Savanna Adventures, your health and safety are part of the journey. Let us help you prepare, so you can explore Tanzania with peace of mind!
